The Guardian Airwaves team are experienced & innovative designers, artists, and programmers. We are passionate about advancing our technology for quality training simulations used for saving and preserving lives. We use both Unity and Unreal engines, proprietary algorithms, and customize our pipeline to develop the most realistic training simulations.

Haptics Technology

We understand the need to investigate how firefighters, law enforcement officers, and medical responders can benefit from haptic technology when experiencing VR simulations of varied emergency incidents. We know poor visibility or loud ambient noises can drastically slow down the ability for a responder to effectively navigate through a space, locate a victim, as well as assessing a victim accurately.Our technology becomes the eyes and touch in VR simulations through the use of simple haptic pulse devices.  Within a haptics vest or suit, we can guide a responder to the best path forward, avoiding obstacles using different haptic types – electric or heat or vibration. Essentially you can feel the space that’s surrounding you, even if you can’t see it. We do this by automatically building a virtual 3D map of the environment in real time using a simple onboard depth and IR camera , similar to what is found in modern mobile devices such as an IPhoneX. There is no pre-surveying required, everything is done on the fly.

Eye Tracking is the process of measuring either the point of gaze (where one is looking) or the motion of an eye relative to the head. An eye tracker is a device for measuring eye positions and eye movement. Eye trackers are used in research on the visual system, in psychology, in psycholinguistics, marketing, as an input device for human-computer interaction, and in product design. We believe eye tracking is a hands-free solution in activating virtual objects or selecting user modes but utilizing a user’s gaze.

SLAM

We use SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) to localize you within the space as you walk through. Once localized, we measure your distance to obstacles in real time and relay that back to the haptic system within a wearable fire suit. We can integrated the haptic device into existing fire suits easily, and the computation and power requirements are minimal and fault tolerant. Another added benefit is that your position on-location can be transmitted wirelessly to a ground station so the response team has a real time feed of where everyone is. This feature is also critical for coordinating rescue efforts and insuring safety.

Existing solutions such as Thermal cameras lose their effectiveness in high-thermal signature environments because most of what you see is the fire and not the surrounding structure. Additionally you need an expensive thermal camera that is wearable in your visor.  Our tech is lower cost, and can see through the fire into the surrounding structure, and does not impede your situational awareness by requiring you to use a thermal camera device.

We believe our solutions help build a strong wireless bi-directional network to the user and interactive VR environments. We also support the progressive research to develop UIs that can be applied to mixed-reality devices that will accommodate dedicated high-speed public safety communication networks developed by FirstNet and First Responder Network Authority to aide public safety professionals & first responders to save lives quicker & better.
